Effect of radiation source distance on the properties of dental fillings

Abstract

Effects of radiation source (LED lamp) distance from the sample surface and exposure time on the mechanical properties of the cured commercial dental composites were examined. The basic properties of the hardened composites were determined, such as compressive strength, Young’s modulus, and compression strain. After each strength test, the appearance of composite damages was assessed by naked eye. By increasing the distance of the source of radiation from the composite surface, the curing time of the composite was extended, resulting in a deterioration of compressive strength and, consequently, reducing the durability of dental filling.
