Polymeric sorbents and membranes in the biological and environmental samples' preparation for analysis (in English)

Abstract

Essential elements of analytical procedures concerning complicated mixtures such as biological and environmental samples are pre-isolation, purification and concentration of the substance analyzed. Polymeric sorbents and membrane systems are used for this purpose more and more often. In this review most important and most often used methods of environmental samples pre-treatment i.e. solid phase extraction (SPE) (Fig. 1 and 2) and supported liquid membranes (SLM) were presented. Special attention has been paid to possibility of use of the sorbents showing different polarity in SPE (Table 1). Possibilities of application of SLM extraction (Scheme A, Fig. 3), including the extraction with selective transfers, for preparation of environmental samples for analyses (Scheme B) were also discussed. Highly selective and effective extraction of pesticides with use of antibody-antigen interaction, so called Immuno-SLM, has been presented (Fig. 4 and 5).
