The properties of polyamide 6—isotactic polypropylene modified mixtures

Abstract

Adhesion, morphology, crystallization kinetics and mechanical properties of polyamide 6 (PA)-PP-i blends were studied in relation to the degree of compatibilization. Maleic anhydride (MAH)-functionalized poly(styrene-b(ethylene-co-butylene)-bstyrene) (SEES) triblock copolymers were used as compatibilizers. In the blends containing SEBS-g-MAH copolymers, the dispersion of phases was more regular and finer (Figs. 8a-8e), the adhesion at the interface was stronger (Figs. 2, 3) and notched impact strength was higher (Fig. 9). The rate of crystallization of PA6 and PP-i in the blends was much faster than that in neat polymers (Figs. 6, 7). The mechanical properties of the blends were only slightly affected by the structure of the compatibilizers used to modify them (Table 3).
