Thermal crosslinking of silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives using organic peroxides

Abstract

The effect of the concentration of crosslinking agent [benzoyl peroxide (BPO) and dichlorobenzoyl peroxide (DClBPO), in the range of 0.5 — 3.0 wt. %] on the crosslinking process of the selected silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives (Si-PSA) was investigated. All of the tested silicone adhesives showed excellent peel adhesion and high cohesion. In most cases, an increase in the crosslinking agent concentration resulted in the improved cohesion and reduced peel adhesion of Si-PSA. The specific parameters of the investigated silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives such as cohesion and peel adhesion can be obtained by a suitable selection of organic peroxide additive.
