Thermal stability and flammability of biodecomposable elastomer materials

Abstract

The effect of the addition of keratin hydrolysates on the properties of butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber vulcanizates was investigated. The rubber blends containing 5, 10 or 30 weight parts of an acidic or enzymatic keratin hydrolysate were prepared. It has been found that the modified keratin in the form of hydrolysates promotes the rubber cross-linking processes, improves the mechanical properties and resistance to thermo-oxidation ageing of the rubber, reduces the flammability of the obtained composites and increases their susceptibility to the biological degradation in a soil.
