Characteristics of an extrusion process with a rotating sleeve of the barrel

Abstract

The experimental results presented, concerning indirectly defined parameters in the title process, are the development of the former studies of directly defined parameters. The work was realized with the use of original test stand equipped with a prototype laboratory extruder with a rotating sleeve of the barrel (Fig. 1). It allowed defining the dependence of average values of indirectly defined parameters, characterizing the extrusion process discussed, on rotational speeds of the screw and rotating sleeve of the barrel (Fig. 2-8). These indirectly defined parameters were: the polymer (PE-LD) mass flow rate and extrusion velocity, extruder power input, thermal power conveyed by the polymer and extruder energy efficiency. The effects of constructional modifications of plasticating system as well as of extrusion conditions on functional properties of the extrudates obtained were evaluated (Fig. 9).
