Studies in the effectiveness of a new generation extruder. Part IV. The comparison of performance of the extruder model with its prototype

Abstract

The performance of the prototype of new generation single-screw extruder W-45 was compared to that of its model W-25. In the extruder prototype, an improved construction of the plasticizing system was used, comprising the rotational sleeve of the barrel with rectilinear grooves of triangular section, cooperating with a special screw in the zone of the lowest depth of screw channel and equipped optionally with a grooved or geometrically uniform ungrooved hopper and feeding zone. The selected process parameters were examined during the extrusion of low density polyethylene with W-45 prototype at variable speed of the screw and rotational sleeve of the barrel. It can be assumed that the influence of rotating barrel on the course of extrusion process is of the same general character for both model W-25 and prototype W-45. It was found that the modifications in the construction of processing screw as well as of rotational sleeve and grooved zone of the barrel, including the connected extruder model components had a clearly positive effect on the efficiency of rotating barrel interaction and the course of extrusion process using prototype W-45.
