Study on the influence of mineral powder fillers modification on the selected mechanical properties of linear low-density polyethylene

Abstract

The results of investigations of mineral powder fillers (fly-ash, talc, chalk, alumina), used as PE-LLD fillers, modification with silane compounds [N-2-(aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimetoxysilane or vinyltrietoxysilane] were presented. A set of, differing in composition, PE-LLD composites with the fillers chemically modified with the silane solutions and, for a comparison, with amine solutions n-butylamine, triethanolamine) has been obtained (Table 2). The results of the investigations both the fillers and composites, using the methods: sorptometric one (specific surface, Fig. 1), X-ray radiography (Fig. 4 and 5), elemental analysis (Table 4) and scanning electron microscopy (Fig. 2 and 3) were presented. Mechanical properties at tension and hardness of the composites (Table 5) were also determined. The result show the significant influence of silane promoters of adhesion on the interactions of the fillers with polymer matrix what enhances the efficiency of filling and improves the selected mechanical properties of the cornposites obtained.
