Abstract

A new catalytic system (VISICO-AMBICAT) allows to eliminate the crosslinking of PE in hot water or in steam as a step in the fabrication of PE-coated low-tension aerial cables. PE can be crosslinked in the presence of moisture at room temperature. As step I, basis PE-VISICO-AMBICAT blends were extruded in a laboratory extruder to produce the strips to be used to measure the mechanical and electrical properties (Tables 1-4). As step II, the blend was used to coat a prototype cable. The cable was tested in compliance with a Branch Standard (Table 5). Results were positive.
