Adhesive properties of low molecular weight polymer modified with nanosilica and disintegrated ultrasonically for application in waterproofing ceramics

Abstract

The results of studies on the effectiveness of hydrophobization of ceramic brick surface using a formulation based on nanopolymers are described. Each series of the specimenswas immersed for 15 s in a solution of nanopolymer — whose structure and composition were additionally modified with nanosilica — and subjected to ultrasonication. The adhesive properties of the hydrophobic nanofilm created on the surface of the bricks were determined by measuring the surface free energy γs (SFE) with Owens—Wendt method using the contact angles of the specimen surface for distilled water (strongly polar liquid) and diiodomethane (non-polar liquid). Based on these results, the effects of sonication and addition of nanosilica on the selected adhesive properties of the material surface were investigated.
