Experimental and simulation studies on filling imbalance in geometrically balanced runner systems of multi-cavity injection molds

Abstract

Filling imbalance in geometrically balanced runner systems of multi-cavity injection molds has been studied experimentally during the injection of amorphous and semicrystalline plastic materials by using various runner geometries. The simulation experiments have been performed using Autodesk Moldflow software to analyze the effect of the injection molding conditions (flow rate, cooling temperature) on the degree of mold filling imbalance. Multi-objective Evolutionary Algorithms are suggested for the optimization of the runner systems in multi-cavity injection molds.
