Hydrolysis of cellulose waste catalyzed by cellulolytic enzymes immobilized on polymer carrier

Abstract

Three commercial cellulolytic enzymes (Viscozyme® L, Novozym 476® and cellulase from Aspergillus sp.) were immobilized on the polymer carrier, which was synthesized via free radical copolymerization of N-vinylformamide (NVF) with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) in inverse suspension. The efficiency of the enzyme immobilization was determined on the basis of enzymatic activity of the native and immobilized enzyme in the hydrolysis of wood pulp and cellulose paper. The stability of biocatalysts was tested in three reaction cycles of hydrolysis. The reaction rate constants for hydrolysis and Michaelis constants were determined.
