Influence of modification of low-density polyethylene with aluminum trihydroxide on its surface free energy

Abstract

The influence of the introduction by extrusion of aluminum trihydroxide (ATH) and other auxiliary media into low-density polyethylene (PE-LD) on the surface free energy and the roughness of the composite surface has been determined. The results confirm that the introduction of ATH did not have any significant influence on the adhesive properties of the extruded PE-LD. Moreover the further addition of the auxiliary media worsened these properties (Fig. 1, Table 1). It was found that ATH as well as the other auxiliary media led to an increase in the roughness proper-ties of the surface of the composites.
