Influence of soft segments on thermal and mechanical properties of terpoly(ester-ether-ester)s

Abstract

The aim of the work was preparation and investigation of new multiblock terpoly(ester-ether-ester)s (TEEE) containing phthalic acid units as in poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) (hard segments) and hydrogenated dimer of dilinoleic acid called as dilinoleic acid sequences (DLA) as hydrophobic ester soft segments, and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as hydrophilic ether soft segments. PEG of different molecular weight (1000 and 4600) was used. Synthesis was performed in a presence of a-tocopherol as non-toxic thermal stabilizer since these materials are targeted for biomedical applications. In this paper, the influence of amount and molecular weight of PEG on thermal and mechanical properties of TEEE is discussed.
