Segmented condensation polyether urethanes as components of leatherlike polymers


Results of investigation into the production of segmented condensation polyether urethanes (SPURK) without application of isocyanates for their synthesis [formula(I)] were presented. SPURK was obtained from oligoether dicarbamates, urea, phenylsulphonic acid and formaldehyde as water suspensions, formulated into poromeric films. Oligoether carbamates, being the flexible segment, were obtained in result of ethyl urethane amidation of appropriate oligooxypropylenediols or oligooxybutylenediols (Table 1). Urea, phenylsulphonic acid and formaldehyde were used to obtain the rigid segments [MKF, see formula (2) and (3)], blending homogeneously with the dicarbamates. Polycondensation of dicarbamates with MKF is presented in formula (4). Optimum conditions for performing each SPURK synthesis process were determined (Scheme A). Effect of SPURK composition and thermal processing conditions on their useful properties [water vapor sorption and desorption, breaking stress, relative elongation on break and resistance to water action (Tables 2-7)] was investigated. SPURK received from oligooxybutylene dicarbamate (molecular weight of the initial diol = 1000), MKF 112 and formaldehyde at molar ratios of 1:1:1 had optimal useful properties. Such polymer could be used for manufacturing air permeable leatherlike materials.
