Linear low-density polyethylene

Abstract

The review concerns one of the polyethylene grades: linear low-density polyethylene (PE-LLD), being a copolymer of polyethylene with small amount (a few per cent) of higher 1-olefin, obtained in co-ordination polymerization with organometallic catalytic systems. The effect of the type of catalyst, especially modern metallocene systems, on the activity in the copolymerization and effectiveness of 1-olefin comonomer introduction to the polyethylene chain, has been discussed. Industrial methods of PE-LLD manufacturing, and the product characteristic against a background of known PE-LD and PE-HD polyethylene grades have been presented. The effect of PE-LLD chemical structure on its basic physicochemical properties has been also discussed as well as the methods of PE-LLD processing and the trends of its application.
